Unit-wide update in 90 seconds

Calm, specific, and actionable communication.

When to use

You need to brief an entire unit on a change or status in under two minutes.

Steps
  1. 1
    Pick the spot

Stand where the most workstations can hear you. Don't shout from the door.

  2. 2
    One sentence: what

'The signature tool is back up as of right now.'

  3. 3
    One sentence: action

'Please retry any pending orders from the last hour.'

  4. 4
    One sentence: support

'I'll be at the central station — wave me over if it fails again.'

What to say
  • 'Quick update — the signature tool is back up.'
  • 'Please retry any pending orders from the last hour.'
  • 'I'll be at the central station if it fails again.'
What to capture
  • What you announced and when
  • Number of clinicians who retried
  • Any follow-up questions raised
Common mistakes
  • Apologizing too much.
  • Explaining cause instead of action.
  • Forgetting to say where you'll be.
When to escalate

If a clinician shows distress or anger, pull them aside — never debate publicly.
